Since arriving at Bryn Mawr, Coach Hewitt has orchestrated a resurgence of talented distance runners in the XC program. A team that had grown comfortable in the 10th spot in the Centennial Conference has slowly, but steadily climbed back into the pack, finishing 7th or above in the past six conference championships. In addition to the continued team success, Hewitt has had the privilege of coaching two Seven Sisters Champions (Kristina Kronauer, 2012; Claudia Keep, 2013), and made three trips to the NCAA DIII National Championships (Keep, 2011, Kronauer 2012, Keep 2013).

Hewitt arrived at Bryn Mawr in 2010 following a four-year tenure at fellow Seven Sisters institution Mount Holyoke. While with the Lyons, he served as Head Coach of the Indoor Track and Field team before adding the role of assistant coach for outdoor track in 2005 and assistant cross country coach in 2007. As the Assistant Cross Country Coach, he helped the Lyons hoist the Seven Sisters Cross Country Championships trophy in 2007, the school’s first title in eight years and the last time the Lyons saw the Sisters cup come home to South Hadley.

Hewitt began his coaching career with Telstar High School in Bethel, Maine, in 2001. At Telstar, he worked as an Assistant Track Coach with his main focus being distances 400m and beyond. During his two-year run, he coached two state champions; one in the 400m and another in the 800m and 1600m events. After a brief stint as an Assistant Coach at Springfield College, Hewitt was named the Head Cross Country Coach at Framingham State College. Hewitt restored to the Rams program to a full squad during his 3 year stint, before moving on the Mt. Holyoke College.

Hewitt earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in mathematics and classical study from Tufts University and a Master of Science with a concentration in Advanced Level Coaching from Springfield College. In addition to the more general USATF Level I Coaching Certification, Hewitt holds Level II certifications in Endurance, Sprints/Hurdles, and Jumps and has started work towards his Level III – Endurance accreditation. He has recently completed the USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Program and maintains USATF and USTFCCCA memberships. Post-collegiately, his own athletic career has meandered from long distance races, to a little bit of triathlon, and back to the track in steeplechase.
