SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr track & field team closed out their 2019 outdoor campaign earlier Monday at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier. There were numerous solid performances from the Owls at the packed event, led by a first-place finish from sophomore Jennica Terry.
Terry fought through the cold weather and rainy conditions to claim the top spot in the 100 hurdles. It wasn't her fastest time of the year, but the 15.12 finish was easily the fastest out of the thirteen competitors in the event. She combined that with an impressive performance in the javelin, where she set a new personal record with a long of 13.97 meters.
Julie Gonzales made sure to go out on a high note in the final meet of her Bryn Mawr career. The senior set a new personal record in the hammer throw, posting a long of 21.43 meters to take seventh in that event. Then on Monday, she reset her own school record in the pole vault one more time, clearing 3.18 meters to cement her place as the top vaulter in Owls history.
Kass Wojcik had a busy day for the Owls, competing in both the 200 and 400 dash. In the 400, she set a new personal record by breaking the 61-second mark for the first time in her career. Her time of 1:00,98 was good enough for 15th place in the event, and she then went on to claim 19th in the 200 with a time of 27.32.
In the 1500, first-year Sarah Keane set a new personal best time of 5:26.27.
Katie Billings was also in action for Bryn Mawr, putting on a solid effort for the Owls in the javelin with a long of 10.28 meters.
Anna Kyle wrapped up the night for the Owls with one last personal best, this time in the 5k. She took 30th in the packed event, posting a new PR of 18:10. She was joined in the event by Bryn Mawr assistant coach Katie Dickerson, who surpassed her own PR as well with a time of 18:27.
With today's result, the Owls close out their 2018-19 campaign. Bryn Mawr should return a strong contingent of Owls back to the team next year, and that should help make the 2019-20 season an even more exciting one to watch!
