Track and Field Excels In Outdoor Season Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - After closing out the indoor season with All-Conference recognition for multiple athletes on the team, Bryn Mawr Track and field ignited their outdoor season at the Ursinus College Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Owls saw a solid number of strong performances, including 10 Centennial Conference qualifiers.

Jennica Terry and Rachel Eaglin got the day started for the Owls in the 100m hurdles. The sophomore conquered the high hurdles in 15.69 while freshman Rachel Eaglin capped off the Owls preliminary performances in the race with a 16.57. Terry posted the fastest hurdle time of the day but clipped a hurdle in the finals. Despite her fall she would finish seventh overall in the event. Eaglin went on to place third in finals (16.46).

Building off her strong performances this past indoor, Kass Wojcik set the standards high in her 200 and 400m outdoor debut. In the 200m she posted a best of 26.91 and shortly after followed up with a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash (1:03.79). Both of her performances today will qualify her for the Centennial Conference Championships in May.

Anna Kyle stole the show in the Women's 5000 meter run and earned herself a first-place finish. Her time of 19:05.75 beat out 10 other competitors in the event and will also secure her a spot at the Centennial Conference Championships. Nina Iman was also in the event and finished 9th at 22:02.30.

Another notable highlight was Shaylin Chaney-Williams who, after qualifying for Triple Jump in the morning put together a 4.85m jump in the Long Jump, for the top Centennial place in the event. Senior Julie Gonzales also had a great opening day in the pole vault. Her best jump of 2.90m was just shy of her outdoor school record and landed her a second-place finish in the event.

The Owls will be back in action on April 6th for the Bill Butler Invitational hosted at West Chester University.

"The team was supported today by members of the McDonnell, Terry, and Wojcik families. Many thanks to those who braved the cold and to the many more who supported us from a far"   - Coach Hewitt
