BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team opened up Centennial Conference play at home earlier Saturday afternoon, and what an opener it was. The Owls were dominant across all four courts on the afternoon, as they stymied the Green Terror and ultimately took an 8-0 win.
Bryn Mawr got the afternoon started on the right foot with clean wins at both first and second doubles. At the top spot, Caroline Horvatits and Libby Hemp paired up, and that duo worked an excellent game plan to perfection. Horvatits and Hemp were able to take advantage of opponent errors and use some great service games to ultimately come away with an 8-2 win. Francesca Caramazza and Christina Xue followed suit at second doubles, as that duo put an even tighter stranglehold on their opponents. Caramazza and Xue made very few errors in their matchup and never really gave their McDaniel counterparts any openings, ultimately claiming an 8-1 on the day. The Owls also picked up a win by default at third doubles.
With plenty of momentum behind them, Bryn Mawr continued to roll through singles play. Horvatits and Xue each only lost one game in their matches at first and second singles, with both claiming 6-1, 6-0 victories. Caramazza was also excellent at third singles in a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Hemp blanked her opponent at fourth singles 6-0, 6-0 in a dominant performance. Mariana Garcia also got a win by default at fifth singles, ultimately giving Bryn Mawr their 8-0 win on the day.
With the victory, the Owls are now 3-0 in the month of March. They'll look to carry on that streak as they continue conference play next week with another home match. Bryn Mawr will welcome Haverford to campus on Wednesday, the 27th, with the matchup slated to start at 4:00 PM.
