BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Bryn Mawr got their first home contest of the new decade in earlier on Tuesday night as the Owls welcomed Muhlenberg to campus for a Centennial Conference contest. It was a tough shooting night for both teams in the contest, as the Owls held Muhlenberg to just 32% from the field in the game. However, Bryn Mawr could not get much offense going themselves, and Muhlenberg ultimately pulled away to a 71-33 win on the night. Halena Martin led the way for Bryn Mawr with 10 points, while Sara Peretti led all scorers with 15 points for the Mules.
Bryn Mawr took an early lead in the contest, going up 2-0 on a jumper by Martin. The senior later hit two free throws, and then a bucket from Ella Kotsen kept the game tied at 6-6 halfway through the opening quarter. However, an 11-point run from the Mules handed the visitors their first double-digit lead of the night. Emma Garner hit a pair of free throws to put a stop to that run, but Muhlenberg closed the frame with a 21-8 lead.
The Owls put up a game-high 11 points in the second quarter, led by four points from Martin. Kotsen drained a three pointer in the frame, and Sydney Collins and Meagan Murray-Bruce each hit inside baskets as well for Bryn Mawr. Muhlenberg didn't slow down on the offensive side though, putting up another 20-point quarter to take a 41-19 lead to halftime. The third quarter only saw Muhlenberg extend their advantage thanks to their best shooting performance of the night. In the fourth quarter, the Bryn Mawr defense did a fantastic job of buckling down against the Mules, holding the visitors to just 4-for-15 from the floor in the frame. Unfortunately, the Owls couldn't get much going offensively in the half, as ultimately Muhlenberg was able to get away with the 71-33 win.
The 33 points is the most Bryn Mawr has scored against the Mules since the 2017-18 season. With her performances to start 2020, Halena Martin has now moved into sixth place on the list of Bryn Mawr's all-time scoring leaders with 1,045 career points.
Bryn Mawr will be right back in action on Thursday, as they continue their three-game week with a trip to Gettysburg. Gametime on Thursday night is set for 8:00 PM in Gettysburg.
