Bryn Mawr Posts Strong Performances In Season-Opening Home Race

BMC Invite group

MEDIA, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr cross country team hosted their annual season-opening Bryn Mawr Invitational earlier Friday evening, and even a deluge and soaking conditions couldn't stop the event from being a rousing success for the Owls. With 12 teams in attendance, the invite has turned into one of the more popular early season cross country invitationals, and it was a perfect chance for the Owls to showcase how far their hard work and training has taken them since last season.

With a solid crew of returners and plenty of fresh faces on the squad as well, the Owls put on a very impressive performance in tonight's season-opener. Bryn Mawr took fourth place overall as a team in the event, finishing just behind Centennial Conference opponents Ursinus and Swarthmore, and ahead of some other strong teams from around the region such as Arcadia and Rutgers-Camden. Anna Kyle led the way for the Owls, claiming fifth place individually with a strong time of 21:04.

First-year runner Emma Fiorini was very impressive in her Bryn Mawr debut, posting the second-fastest finish of any Owl in a time of 21:57. That was good enough for 10th place overall in the event. Sophomore Emily George finished close behind in a time of 22:21, giving her 16th. Nevada Powers (22:54) and Campbell Powell (23:07) rounded out the scoring for Bryn Mawr. Allegra Wham got her senior season off to a solid start with a time of 23:16, and first-year Amelia McDonnell (23:35) posted a top-seven time for the Owls as well.

Maia Jackson (23:42), Carey Parker (24:19), Hannah Staley (26:15), Sarah Keane (26:57) and Brooke Barton (26:58) each made their first-year debuts for the Owls in the event. Haley Varnum (23:51), Nina Inman (24:33), Shannon Fisher (25:10), and Emily Darrow (27:24) also took part in the race with solid performances of their own.

The Owls now have several weekends off of competition to continue to train and develop. Bryn Mawr is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 22nd for the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational.
