PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College cross country team traveled to the Belmont Plateau on Saturday afternoon for the annual running of the Jack Saint Clair Memorial hosted by Philadelphia University.
The Owls took the course in stride against some tough Division I and II competition, but Bryn Mawr didn't let that distract them one bit. With a majority of the varsity squad taking the weekend off as the Owls gear-up for next weekend's Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship, the spotlight was once again able to shine for the younger runners.
The group of eager runners was led by senior co-captain Emily Bell. Bell paced the team over the first mile and hitting their pace and showing composure throughout the hills of the 6K Plateau. Bell led the team to the finish line with a 27:50. Junior Sarah Macholdt placed second on the team with a 29:52 followed by sophomore Elaine Schmidt with a 28:21.
The fourth runner on the day, junior Victoria Travis, started the long list of personal best times at the 6K distance with a 30:44. Also setting new PR times was freshmen Julia Henrikson (30:45), Marissa Mirecki (32:22) and Yamina Mohattane (33:26). Also posting personal best times was the freshman trio of Yue Yang (33:42), Maura Fitzpatrick (34:57) and Margaret Patchin (36:36).
The Owls will be at full strength next weekend when they travel to Wellesley College for the annual Seven Sister Cross Country Championships.
