Bryn Mawr Gives Muhlenberg Strong Test On Road

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball squad was back in action earlier Thursday at Muhlenberg for another Centennial Conference weeknight showdown. Despite a strong all-around effort from the Owls, it was Muhlenberg who protected their home court and claimed the 3-0 win on the night. Nicole Wood led the team with six kills and 16 digs on the night, while Alanna Mora-Mickens and Olivia Harkins-Finn each added four more kills and Casandra Paiz chipped in 10 digs.

Bryn Mawr hung right with the Mules early on in the first set, as a kill from Wood and several errors from the hosts kept it a 4-4 game out of the gate. A six-point run gave the Mules a 10-4 advantage, but the Owls were able to chip that deficit all the way back down to 15-13 midway through the set thanks to two more kills from Wood, another from Harkins-Finn, and more errors from the hosts. However, Muhlenberg was able to tighten up their play and pull away to win ten of the next 12 points and take the opening set 25-15.

The second set was a similar story, as the Mules had a lead or were tied the whole way, but Bryn Mawr kept it close all the way into the middle of the set. Izzy Gerosa notched the first kill of her Bryn Mawr career, and another pair of kills from Mora-Mickens helped Bryn Mawr trail just 10-8. However, from there Muhlenberg won seven of the next eight points to open up a bit of a gap. Harkins-Finn added two more kills and Wood bagged another to help Bryn Mawr try and climb back in the set, but the Mules were ultimately able to cruise ahead to a 25-13 win.

The hosts were able to pull ahead a little earlier in the third set, but thanks to several errors from the hosts and kills from Sydney Collins, Mora-Mickens, and Wood, it was still just a 12-8 deficit for the Owls midway through. Another run from the Mules broke things open though, as they won eight out of nine points at one stage to take a commanding lead. The Owls tried to play catch-up thanks to several more errors from the hosts, but it wasn't enough, as Muhlenberg pulled away to the 25-14 win to close out the match.

The Owls will be right back in action on Saturday, as they will welcome McDaniel to campus for another league match. Gametime on Saturday is set for 1:00 PM.
