BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team is just a few months away from preseason preparations for their 2018 campaign, and today they released their schedule and roster for the upcoming season. The Owls welcome four new faces to the fold this season, who alongside nine returning players should make for an excellent squad looking to build off of a strong foundational year in 2017.
"I am truly excited about the 2018 volleyball season," head coach Nicole Reiley said. "Our coaching staff is very proud of our returning players as they have trained very hard during the off-season. We have worked to push our tempo which will help us be more dynamic in match play."
Reiley is also looking for big things from her four incoming first-years. "We will look for our freshmen class to step in and join our returners to elevate the level in our gym. We hope that our team will continue to build momentum over the course of the summer to make the statement in preseason that we're here to compete."
The Owls will open their season with a big road trip to central Virginia. Bryn Mawr will kick things off on August 31st with matches against Delaware Valley and Mary Baldwin at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, then follow that up with two more matches the following day against Salem and Catholic at Bridgewater College. After that long road trip to begin the season, the Owls will return home to Bryn Mawr for a long five-match homestand through mid-September. Opponents for Bryn Mawr in that stretch will include Immaculata, Valley Forge, Goucher, Penn State Brandywine, and their first Centennial Conference foe in Johns Hopkins. Other non-conference matches this season for Bryn Mawr include a tilt against Bryn Athyn, who the Owls have a 7-0 all-time record against, and Rosemont, who Bryn Mawr defeated 3-1 in a thrilling match last season. In conference, Bryn Mawr will also face off against Gettysburg, Muhlenberg, Swarthmore, and Franklin & Marshall at home. Bryn Mawr will take on Ursinus, the last Centennial Conference win the Owls netted back in 2015, in their final match of the season on October 27th. Also of note, the Gettysburg match will come as part of the Homecoming celebration on September 29th, as the volleyball match will be the final game of the day in the Bryn Mawr athletics complex at 5:00 PM.

Penelope "Penny" Newall - Setter - Chapel Hill, N.C.
High School: Carrboro
Coach Snapshot: "Penny is exactly the type of player we want and need in our gym. She is coming to us after an incredible run of two straight state championship wins, so she will bring a winning mentality and competitiveness to Bryn Mawr volleyball. We will rely on her vision, athleticism, and volleyball IQ to carry over to our team in 2018."
Jane Rand - Defensive Specialist/Setter - San Francisco, Calif.
High School: University High School
Coach Snapshot: "I am happy that Jane will be joining our volleyball team at Bryn Mawr. She will bring ball control and intensity to our team in 2018. She was a setter in high school and will add depth at the setting position but will compete for playing time as a defensive specialist immediately."
Nicole Wood - Setter - Riverside, Conn.
High School: Greenwich
Coach Snapshot: "Nicole is a fierce competitor on the court. She is coming to us after winning a state championship during her high school season and had a successful club season as well. She is extremely coachable and she pushes herself to get better. We will heavily rely on her ball control and athleticism to push our team in 2018."
Aaliyah Joseph - Defensive Specialist/Opposite - Portland, Ore.
High School: De La Salle North Catholic
Coach Snapshot: "I am looking forward to watching Aaliyah develop as a player on the court. She will have to work hard to adjust to the pace of the game but has great enthusiasm that will push our team in a positive direction."
