BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Friday September 1st the Bryn Mawr Owls welcomed the Immaculata Mighty Macs to their home court as they ignited their 2017 season. The Owls gave the Mighty Macs spurts of trouble throughout the game however, in the end came up short and suffered a 3-0 loss. Freshman Cassandra Paiz had an exceptional night defensively, garnering a total of 21 digs from the back end of the court.
Immaculata started off the game with a great lead thanks to Junior, Shelby Belk serving 5 service aces in a row. Their momentum from such a great start lead them through to their second set leaving the Owls in a 1-0 deficit on a 25-11 effort in the opening set. Despite Immaculata's great lead the Owls pushed through and tried to work together.
Junior Camille Baechler and Freshman Eliza Todd were certainly the stand out performers of the night for the Owls. However, it wasn't until the end of the second set that these two truly arose. Camille Baechler's first service ace of the season in the second set ignited a small rally between the teams placing them at 13-9 midway through the set. Overall Baechler had 7 kills and led the team in overall points, earning a total of 9. Baechler was additionally right behind Freshman Eliza Todd who led the team in kills and had a great rally against the Macs in the third set putting them at 21-16.
Despite the Owls efforts the Mighty Macs were too dominant in the long stretch and came out on top. The Owls will be back in action Saturday afternoon at Penn State Brandywine with hopes to land their first win.
