WEST CHESTER, Pa. - After a weekend full of weather-related delays and postponements, the Bryn Mawr track and field team finally was able to get in action earlier Sunday. The Owls took part in the WCU Invitational, hosted by West Chester University, on Sunday, with several top performances along the way.
Gwendolyn Vary got things started by setting a new school record in the hammer throw. The junior posted a long of 24.46 meters, improving upon her own record set last season in the event. That was also good enough for 13th place overall in the event.
Kate Edwards also had a strong showing this afternoon. The sophomore distance specialist closed out the meet with a season best time in the 5k. Edwards ran a 19:01 in the event, good enough to take second place behind a Division II competitor.
In between those two great performances, the Owls had a spattering of other solid showings as well. Marrissa Mirecki ran a personal record in the 100 meter dash with a 15.29 and a season best in the 200m with a time of 31.83. She was joined in the 200m by Claire Petitt (29.16) and Yue Yang (30.92) as well, both of whom also set season bests.
Yang, a senior, also posted a season best time in the 800 meter earlier in the meet. She finished 21st in that event with a time of 2:42.
The Owls will be right back in action with a busy week ahead of them next week. Bryn Mawr will take part in the Gwynedd Mercy Mid-Week Twilight Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 PM. Then, Bryn Mawr will gear up for another invite on Saturday.
