Keep Takes Home 16th in the 5K At NCAA’s
DELAWARE, OHIO – Junior Claudia Keep finished the season by placing 16th at the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon at Ohio Wesleyan University.
On a hot and humid day, Keep ran a time of 17:35.19 as she took home 16th place out of 22 runners in the most competitive 5K field in recent history. The heat and a side stitch during the race played a factor in her finishing spot. However, she finished ahead of two Johns Hopkins runners, who claimed 17th and 20th place.
The winner of the race was Christy Cazzola from Wisconsin-Oshkosh who finished with a time of 16:29.96. The top 11 finishers posted sub-17:00 times.
The 16th place finish closes out an extremely successful season for Keep. She became the first Bryn Mawr runner to compete in all three track-related national championships – cross country (47th place), indoor (10th place – 5K) and outdoor (16th place – 5K). She also set school records in the 3K (10:04.31) and 5K (17:23.17) for indoors as well as the 1500m (4:40.46) and 5K (16:48.07) for outdoors.
