Indoor Track Continues Fast Start to Season

Princeton, N.J. - Four members of the Bryn Mawr indoor track and field team got back in action again earlier Sunday, competing in their second event in as many days. Against stiff competition in the New Year's Invitational, including numerous Division I programs, the Owls continued to post impressive results in just their second meet of the season.

Rebekah Gallop continued her strong weekend by running a 5:35.85 in the mile run. That time was good enough for third place and also to put her in the conference championship in that event as well. She becomes the first Owl to qualify to the conference championship meet in two events this season.

Fresh off a third-place finish of her own yesterday, Elaine Schmidt ran an incredible 3:10.69 in the 1000 meter run today. The time is a new personal best for the senior and a top five time in program history in the event as well.

Fellow senior Tonja Nixon put together a great sprint in the 60 meter dash. She posted a time of 8.64 seconds in the event, qualifying her for the indoor championships and marking her fastest start to a season in her time at Bryn Mawr.

Hadiyyah Graves closed out the meet for the Owls, running in the 300 meter dash for the first time ever. She ran a time of 43.12 in the event, knocking off the old school record by more than five seconds.

Bryn Mawr will now take a break from competition for the holiday season. The Owls will continue to train and build strength over the next several weeks, and will return to action on the track when they return to campus for the new year.
