Track and Field Opens 2014 Centennial Conference Championships

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The 2014 Centennial Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Haverford College got underway Saturday as the Owls competed in the only women's individual event, the 5k. The first day of the championship was comprised of pentathlon and heptathlon events.

Junior Claudia Keep led the way for the Owls with a fourth place finish with a time of 17:36.84. En route to the fourth place finish, Keep scored five team points, the only team points for the day.

Also taking to the track in the 5k was sophomore Hannah Hastings. Coming off a good performance at Princeton University in the mile run a week ago, Hastings  put down a personal best time in the event with a 18:23.45. She took home 12th place in the event.

At the end of day one, the Owls are tied with Gettysburg for third place with five team points. Johns Hopkins is in the lead with 48 team points followed by Dickinson. F&M (4 points) and Ursinus (3 points) round out the scoring.

With the impending winter storm predicted to hit the Philadelphia area on Sunday, the Centennial Conference adjusted the schedule for the final day of the championships.
