HAVERFORD, Pa. – The spring portion of the 2013-14 indoor track and field season got underway Saturday as the Owls traveled down Route 30 to Haverford College.
Despite not traveling with the entire team, the Owls that did take to track put forth impressive performances.
The day got off on the right note as the throwers took to the track. Freshman Gwendolyn Vary led the team with a toss of 7.91m, a personal best. Sophomore Margaret Patchin's heave of 6.10m was also a personal best and her first ever toss of 6+ meters.
In the 60m dash, junior Tonja Nixon and senior Rachael Kahelin ran solid times of 8.63 and 10.33, respectively. On the day, Kahelin added a season-best leap of 3.86m in the long jump.
Sophomore Yue Yang posted a personal best time of 31.83 in the 200m while senior Victoria Travis set a new personal best time in the 3k with a 12:28.28.
The 4x400 team of Nixon, sophomore Lauren Dana, Yang, and junior Rachel Hager finished the day off with a time of 5:02.29, the fastest time for this quartet to date.
The team will be back to full strength on Sunday, February 2, when they travel to East Stroudsburg for the DeSchriver Invitational.
