FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Owls tennis team sent two players down to central Virginia this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Championship, with play kicking off earlier Saturday. Audrey Camacho and Skylar Korman took the court for the Owls looking to make some noise in their first career ITA tournament competition.
The duo paired up in the Championship Doubles bracket, while Camacho played in the Championship Singles bracket and Korman entered the C Singles bracket as well. In doubles, Camacho and Korman put up a strong fight, but lost to the Salisbury duo of Veronica Cuellar and Jordan Schaefer by an 8-3 score. Over in Championship Singles, Camacho went up against Washington & Lee's Taylor Garcia, the fifth-ranked player in the bracket. Camacho battled hard the whole way through her match, but wasn't able to get on the attack enough and Garcia ultimately claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win. Korman suffered a similar fate against Salisbury's Katherine Tamesis, losing by a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline.
Both Owls will be right back in action in the consolation bracket across each division. Doubles action starts at 8 AM, while Camacho will hit the court for singles at 11:30 and Korman will do the same at 12:30.
