Parrish and Camacho Topple Regionally-Ranked Doubles Opponents as Owls Battle Diplomats

Audrey Camacho and Amalia Parrish team up at #1 doubles in the spring of 2019

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team was back in action on their home court earlier Saturday afternoon, as the Owls hosted Franklin & Marshall for a Centennial Conference match.

Franklin & Marshall picked up two wins at second and third doubles by 8-1 scores, but the main excitement came at first doubles. Amalia Parrish and Audrey Camacho paired up once again at the top spot, and they have been a force to be reckoned with all spring. They took on Franklin & Marshall's Allison Wolters and Gavriel Rubenstein, the 13th-ranked doubles pairing in the region, and it was a back-and-forth battle from the start. However, Parrish and Camacho put on a brilliant performance, battled the whole way through, and ultimately came out on top 8-6 against their Diplomat opponents.

Over in singles, Franklin & Marshall was able to regroup and pick up an early win at sixth singles. Parrish, who had played the marathon doubles match earlier, put on a strong fight against Wolters at first singles, but lost 6-1, 6-1. The Owls also suffered tough losses at third and fifth singles. At fourth singles, Francesca Caramazza did a fantastic job to gut out a win in her first set, using an important break of serve to win the opener 7-5. However, her Diplomat opponent won the second set 6-1, and then clinched the point by winning the tiebreak 10-7.

However, Camacho kept the Diplomats from acheiving the sweep in singles with a gutty performance of her own. The first-year lost her first set in very tough fashion, dropping a first set tiebreaker 8-6 to lose the set 7-6. But she didn't let that faze her - Camacho put together a fantastic second set, winning 6-3 to force a tiebreaker. In that breaker, each player pulled ahead at times until it was 9-9 late. Then Camacho found that one last reserve of energy to win back-to-back points and close out the win of her match.

The Owls will be right back in action next week, as they will hit the road on Tuesday, April 9th for a match at Muhlenberg. That match is slated to start at 4:00 PM.
