Owls Tennis Faces Off With Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Bryn Mawr's tennis team traveled down the road to Centennial Conference and Tri-Co rival Swarthmore earlier Wednesday afternoon to take on the 36th-ranked Garnet on their home court. The Owls gave the hosts a good fight on the day, but ultimately the Garnet were able to hang on and come away with a 9-0 win on the day.

Bryn Mawr put up solid battles at the top two double spots, but the Garnet pairings were just too solid on the day and both took 8-0 wins in those contests. Christina Xue and Mariam Haider paired up for the Owls at third doubles, and that duo had a bit more success, winning a game in that match. However, the Garnet still picked up the point there too, taking the match 8-1 and pulling ahead 3-0 in the team score after doubles play.

In singles, Hannah Sherman had a very strong day for the Owls. The first-year gave her opponent fits throughout much of the first set of their match at second singles, and Sherman ultimately won four games in the first frame. However, Swarthmore's Anna Scheibmeir was able to hold off a hard charge from Sherman to win the first set 6-4 and ultimately claim the match with a 6-1 win in the second set. Lizzie Siegle and Mariam Haider also put up strong performances in their matches at first and third singles, but each also lost 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively. Swarthmore also earned the win in the final three singles matches of the day to collect the 9-0 win in the contest.

Bryn Mawr will be right back in action on Saturday with a trip to Gettysburg for a 12 PM battle with the Bullets.
