ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team earned their first Centennial Conference victory of 2017 earlier Wednesday with a 6-3 win at Muhlenberg College. Caroline Horvatits and Sydney Kim each went 2-0 on the afternoon to pace the Owls to the victory.
Bryn Mawr took an early advantage in doubles, going 2-1 in that format. Kim and Lizzie Siegle got the Owls off on the right foot at first doubles, winning their match by a score of 8-5. Horvatits and Eram Haider were even more dominant at second doubles, taking a 8-3 victory over their Mules opponents. However, Muhlenberg battled back with a win at third doubles despite a solid effort from Mariam Haider and Francesca Caramazza.
Mariam Haider got a bit of revenge for that loss with a victory at fifth singles. She got Bryn Mawr back in the win column with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Shelby Knafo. Horvatits quickly followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at fourth singles. Then, Kim put the Owls over the top with a dominating 6-4, 6-1 victory at third singles. With the team victory already in hand, Siegle and Eram Haider battled hard but lost at first and second singles, respectively. Caramazza closed out the day on a high note for the Owls with a 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 win at sixth singles.
The win today is the second straight Bryn Mawr victory over Muhlenberg and the ninth all-time against that program.
The Owls will look to continue their winning ways when they get back in action on Friday, April 14th. The Owls will be back on the road for a matchup against league foes Franklin & Marshall. That match is slated to start at 4 PM.
