BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Seniors Catherine Austin, Vivien Chen, Eliza Perocchi and Jenny Vogel were honored before their final home intercollegiate match against Ursinus. The Bears ended-up spoiling the seniors' day as they earned a 6-3 conference win.
Vogel led the day for the owls as she was a double winner in No.3 doubles and No. 2 singles. When teamed-up with sophomore Melina Koukoutchos, the No. 3 tandem earned the 8-3 win over Christine Palazzolo and Audrey Whitebloom.
In singles action, Vogel rolled easily over Whitebloom 6-2, 6-1. Bryn Mawr's other win in singles at the No.1 position, came from classmate Chen. After dropping her first set 4-6, Chen bounced back with a 6-3 second set decision. In the third and deciding set, both Chen and Heather McMasters battled to a 6-6 score. In the tiebreaker, Chen jumped ahead early and never looked back as she won 7-3.
In other doubles play, the No. 1 dup of sophomore Kendall Baller and Chen fell 8-1 to Christina Cromwell and McMasters. The No. 2 team of Austin and Perocchi fell 8-2 to BreAnna Bashaw and S.J. Seabra.
In the remaining four singles showdowns, one with to a third set while two other had tiebreakers. After winning the first set 6-2 over Bashaw, Perocchi fell 6-3, 6-2, in the second and third set from the No. 3 position. In the 4th spot, Koukoutchos lost in straight sets to Cromwell 6-2, 6-2.
In No.5 singles, Baller scored a first set tie break but fell 7-6(3) before falling 6-2 in the second set. From the sixth position, sophomore Tirsa Delate was defeated by Robin Alsher 6-1, 7-6(2).
The Owls close out the 2013-14 season when they travel to Franklin and Marshall on Friday, April 25, at 4:00 pm.
