WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior Catherine Austin posted a pair of win but it wasn't enough as the host McDaniel College Green Terror snapped a 66 game Centennial Conference losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Owls Saturday.
When teamed-up with classmate Jenny Vogel at No. 1 doubles, the duo posted an 8-5 win over Kiersten Patron and Chelsea Barnett. After jumping out to an early lead, the Terror bounced back to pull within one, 5-4. Over the next four games, the Owls distanced themselves 3-1 to pick-up the win.
At the No. 2 spot, freshman Kendall Baller and sophomore Rachel Genovese made light work of Laura Pollard and Sophie White by posting an 8-1 win. After losing a point early in the match, the tandem stayed focused as they didn't surrender another game to pick-up the Owls first point of the day.
In third doubles, the freshmen team of Tirsa Delate and Molly MacDougall battled hard, but fell short as Lauren Lewis and Angela Johnson claimed the 8-6 victory. Heading into singles, the Owls held a 2-1 lead.
In singles play, Austin downed Danielle Cloney 6-0, 6-2, from the third position. From the tops spot, Vogel fell t patron 7-6 (2), 6-2, while Baller fell in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, to Barnett. Delate, playing the 4th position was downed by White 6-4, 6-2. The No. 5 player, freshman Amelia Arnold lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, while MacDougall fell 6-3, 6-1.
The Owls will travel for the final time in 2013 when they visit Ursinus on Thursday, April 25, for a 4:00 pm contest with the Bears.
