Tennis Suffers 7-2 setback to Washington College

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Visiting Washington College took a 2-1 lead following doubles action before taking five of the six singles matches en route to a 7-2 win over the owls Tuesday afternoon.

Bryn Mawr's line doubles win come in from the third position as the duo of freshman Tirsa Delate and sophomore Rachel Genovese defeated Kat Cohen and Amy Stevens 8-5. The No. 3 tandem jumped out to a 5-2 lead before the Shorewomen bounced back to pull within one, 6-5. Delate and Genovese claimed the next two points to win the point. 

In other doubles play, the No. 1 team of juniors Catherine Austin and Jenny Vogel fell 8-4 to Marielle McIntyre and Campbell McNicol. From the second slot, freshmen Kendall Baller and Melina Koukoutchos were blanked by Greyeon Kang and April Weaver 8-0.

In singles action, freshman Molly McDougall won the first set 6-0 before falling in the second 0-6. In the tiebreaker, McDougall topped Amy Stevens 10-6 to claim the Owls only win in singles play.

Vogel fell in the N. 1 spot 6-1, 6-1, to Weaver while Koukoutchos was defeated by McNicol 6-2, 6-2. From the third spot, Baller dropped her match to Cohen 6-3, 6-1, while Austin was defeated in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to Kang. In the fifth position, Delate lost 6-1, 6-2. 

The Owls will travel to Vassar College this weekend for the annual Seven Sisters Champions. Play get underway on Saturday when they take on the host Brewers at 9:30 am.
