Owls Post Strong Results Against Swarthmore and F&M

Maddie Schwimmer swims against Ursinus in the 2017-18 season

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr swim team was back in action Friday night, as the Owls traveled to Swarthmore to take on both the Garnet and Franklin & Marshall in a three-team meet. There were plenty of strong performances on the night for the Owls, led by a fourth-place finish by Madelyn Schwimmer in the 500 freestyle.

The Owls sophomore got off to a strong start in the difficult distance event, eventually settling into fifth place, just behind Swarthmore first-year Zoe Myers-Bochner. The Garnet swimmer began to pull away slightly during the middle of the event, ultimately opening up a three-second advantage on her Bryn Mawr opponent. However, Schwimmer had timed things perfectly, turning up the intensity in the sixth and seventh laps to erase that deficit and pull ahead of Myers-Bochner. She then kept the power up all the way to the end, finishing in a time of 5:42.41 and taking fourth place by over five seconds in the end.

Schwimmer also joined her teammates in both relay events, with the Owls taking sixth in the 400 freestyle (4:04.22) and seventh in the 400 medley (4:26.74).

Ryan Griffin was another Owl who had a strong night, most notably with a sixth-place finish in the 50 freestyle. The Bryn Mawr junior posted a fast time of 26.48 in that event, a new season-best for Griffin. Lauren Birmingham (27.84), Hannah Nye (28.28), and Clara Costello (29.08) also put up season-bests in that event. Griffin went on to take seventh in the 100 freestyle, finishing that one with another season-best time of 1:01.24.

Maya Schneider posted season-best times in both the 100 and 200 backstroke on the evening, taking seventh in the 200 with a time of 2:20.23 and picking up the season-best in the 100 with a 1:03.90 opening leg of the Owls' 400 medley relay.

Sophomore Hannah Soisson paced Bryn Mawr in the breastroke, taking fifth place in the 200 yard distance of that event. Soisson posted a season-best time of 2:47.06, while teammate Maggie Hernan claimed sixth in a time of 2:51.54.

Becca Adlai-Gail posted a seventh-place finish in the 200 butterfly, swimming that event in a season-best time of 2:25.93. In the 200 individual medley, first-year Anna Danesh posted a season-best time of 2:32.69.
