BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr Swim team was back in action Saturday, February 3rd for their last home meet of the season. The Owls had numerous outstanding performances, and it was a fight to the finish to hold off McDaniel College. Going into the last few events of the day the two teams were neck and neck however it was McDaniel who captured the win for the meet, winning by just one point ( 101-102). A devastating loss for the Owls however their individual performances were certainly unmatched.
Action opened up today in the 200 yard medley relay. The Owls A team finished just over a second behind McDaniel with a time of 2:04.37. The relay consisted of Samantha Forestier, Hannnah Soisson, Lucy Bruemmer, and Lauren Birmingham.
Next up in the 1000 yard freestyle it was Becca Adlai-Gail's time to shine. The sophomore swam to a first place finish and beat out four other participants. Her time of 11:14.72 landed her a PR as she finished more than 11 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The 1000 freestyle was not the only highlight of her day. Shortly after Adlai-Gail took the water for the 200 yard butterfly and captured her second win of the day. Her time of 2:24.75 was just one second off her PR. Lucy Bruemmer finished third in the event in a time of 2:38.72.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Lillian Oyen-Ustad swept the field and earned herself a first place finish in a time of 25.11. Her performance today landed her a new PR for the season. It was a quick turn around for Oyen-Ustad as she hit the pool shortly after for the 100 yard freestyle. After PR'ing just two events prior in the 50 yard freestyle, Oyen-Ustad came back, shocked the crowd by simultaneously winning the 100 yard freestyle and PR'ing in yet another event in the meet. Oyen-Ustad beat out 5 other competitors, scored nine points in the event and finished in a time of 54.88. Lauren Birmingham was also in action in the 100 yard freestyle. The freshman finished fourth overall in a time of 1:03.56.
Madelyn Schwimmer had an amazing race in the 500 yard freestyle. The freshman swimmer landed her first collegiate win in a time of 5:32.39. From the beginning of the race Schwimmer was in charge, setting the pace and getting out to a strong start. Her time of 5:32.39 will land her a new PR as well. Becca Adlai-Gail finished 12 seconds behind Schwimmer (5:44.51) and captured a second place finish for the Owls. Charlotte Xu debuted in her first 500 freestyle and finished in 6:53.90.
Hannah Soisson dominated the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing second in a time of 2:39.54. The meet concluded with the 200 yard freestyle relay as the Owls foursome of Madelyn Schwimmer, Varuna Jasodanand, Ryan Griffin, and Lillian Oyen-Ustad powered their way to victory with a time of 1:44.52.
The Owls will be in action next weekend at Ursinus College for their last conference meet of the season before they take on the Centennial Conference Championships.
