Davis Leads Swimming at Day 1 of Seven Sisters Action

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Meredith Davis recorded Bryn Mawr's only individual title in the 50 freestyle  Saturday at the annual Seven Sisters Championships held by Wellesley College. She also added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly.

Davis's victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.38 was five tenths of a second faster than the second place finisher, Monica Gates of Wellesley. The victory is Bryn Mawr's first-place finish at the Seven Sisters Championships since Davis claimed first place in the 100 butterfly in 2011. With the win, Davis has earned a spot on the All-Seven Sisters Team. The All-Seven Sisters team is comprised of the swimmer that wins each individual event.

In the 100 butterfly, Davis took home second place with a time of 1:00.46. Davis took home second place in this event last year when Smith hosted the annual event.

Freshman Rebecca Craig put forth a great effort in her first even Seven Sisters Championship. She claimed 6th place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.37 as well as a member of the 200 free relay and 800 freestyle relay that scored team points for the Owls.

Other impressive individual performances include sophomore Kristina Xiang in the 200 IM by taking home 11th place in 2:25.45. Freshman Angela Mastrianni took home 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.04) and 15th in the 200 IM (2:29.28). Freshman Sahara Clement claimed 12th place in the 200 free with a time of 2:10.87 while junior Ruth Logan took home 16th in the 500 free  (5:45.72).

The Bryn Mawr relays had a great day 1, led by the 200 free and 200 medley teams that claimed 5th place in their respective events. The 200 free relay, comprised of three freshmen and one sophomore, started the day off on a high note for the Owls with a time of 1:49.05. The quad was made-up by first-year classmates Clement, Craig and Carolyn Gee, as well as Xiang. The 200 medley squad of Clement, Davis, Mastrianni and Xiang finished the 8-lap race in a time of 2:02.19.

The 400 free relay of Clement, Davis, Mastrianni and Xiang claimed 6th place with a 4:26.01 while the 800 free team of Clement, Craig, senior Hannah Gilbert, and Logan took home 6th place in 8:39.99.
