Bryn Mawr Gives Diplomats Tough Test Saturday

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr soccer team was back on the pitch on Saturday for a matchup with Franklin & Marshall. The Owls gave the Diplomats a good fight for 90 minutes on the day, but ultimately were unable to find the back of the goal in a tough 3-0 loss to their conference foes. Laura Burckhardt and Paige Mastripolito led the Owls with three shots apiece in the game, while Grecia Prieto and Carlie Hansen split time in goal for Bryn Mawr.

Franklin & Marshall had the first few good offensive chances of the day, but Bryn Mawr got their own crack at the goal in the 13th minute. Elizabeth Hummel got a shot off on goal, but Sara Ghorashi was there to make the save for the Diplomats. The hosts would then go on to score the opening goal of the day just ten minutes later, as Emilee Adami knocked in a cross from the right side to put F&M up 1-0. The Owls would be held without a shot over the rest of the half, and the Diplomats carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Mastripolito got her first shot of the day early on in the frame, but Ghorashi was once again there to make the save. Just a few minutes later, F&M would double their lead thanks to a goal from Meg O'Callahan. Ten minutes after that, Nicolette Runko closed out the scoring with her ninth goal of the season for the Diplomats. Right after that tally, Mastripolito and Burckhardt each peppered the goal with shots within a minute of each other, but Ghorashi made two more solid saves. The Diplomats goalkeeper would close the day with four saves to claim the 3-0 shutout win.

Bryn Mawr will now return home for the final week of the season, as the Owls will host Haverford and Ursinus next week to cap off the 2019 campaign. First up will be the Fords, who will come across town on Tuesday afternoon for a 4:00 PM tilt against Bryn Mawr on Applebee Field.
