LANCASTER, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr soccer team was back in action earlier Saturday afternoon, as the Owls took on perennial powerhouse Franklin & Marshall. Bryn Mawr did a fantastic job defensively all afternoon, keeping the Diplomats from accruing too many dangerous opportunities throughout most of the contest. Goalkeeper Leah Baer was a big part of that strong performance, as the junior netminder racked up eight saves on the day. However, despite the strong effort from the Owls, Franklin & Marshall was able to break through for a pair of goals in each half to take a 4-0 win on the day.
Bryn Mawr did a great job weathering an early storm from the Diplomats, getting a pair of saves from Baer and forcing several other shots wide in the opening 15 minutes of play. However, the hosts cracked through in the 20th minute, with Alexis Hucek tallying her first goal of the season on a shot to the bottom right corner of the net. The Owls did well to settle down after that early tally, once again keeping most of Franklin & Marshall's attacks wide and out of the dangerous areas. However, the hosts tallied again less than six minutes before halftime, with Liv McCutcheon scoring her first goal of the year to make it 2-0 Diplomats.
Franklin and Marshall scored their two goals of the second half very early on in the frame, tallying on two of their first three shots of the half to take a 4-0 lead with 40 minutes left to play. Bryn Mawr tightened the defense back up from there, however, as the Owls did not give up another goal the rest of the way. Ultimately, Bryn Mawr couldn't get anything going offensively though, leading to the 4-0 shutout win for the Diplomats.
Bryn Mawr will be right back in action on Tuesday for their final homestand of the year. The Owls will welcome Haverford to campus for a 4:00 PM tilt against the Fords on Applebee Field. Then, Bryn Mawr will close out their season on Homecoming Saturday with a 2:00 PM game against Ursinus.
