WESTMINSTER, Md. - Bryn Mawr's soccer team was back in action earlier Saturday for a tough contest against Centennial Conference foe McDaniel. The Owls put together another solid 90 minutes of work on the day, but couldn't crack the vaunted Green Terror defense, and the hosts kept their unblemished record alive with a 4-0 win in the contest. Alexis Boutchie, Haidyn Weight, and Liz Hoo all tallied shots in the game for the Owls, while sophomore goalkeeper Leah Baer made six saves in goal.
McDaniel (7-0) got on the board early on with a goal on the first major play of the game. Off a throw-in, Abby Keen was able to one-time a shot past Baer and into the netting to dig Bryn Mawr into a 1-0 hole just 2:22 into play. Bryn Mawr (1-4-1) tried to answer right back, and got a decent look at goal as Hoo was able to get a shot off. However, McDaniel's Sarah McDonald was able to make a save and keep Bryn Mawr off the scoreboard. That ended up being a big save, as the hosts would go down the other way and get an insurance goal just minutes later, swinging the momentum back in their direction.
Once again, the Owls would work hard to battle back from that early deficit and get back in the game. Bryn Mawr's next good chance came in the 23rd minute, this time off the foot of Haidyn Weight. The junior got another clean shot away on goal, but once again McDonald was there to make the stop, and the game remained at 2-0 through halftime. Unfortunately for the Owls, the second half was a close repeat of the first, as McDaniel used two early goals in the frame to run out to a 4-0 lead. From there, the hosts were able to weather a last shot from Boutchie and preserve the 4-0 win.
Bryn Mawr will now get plenty of time off to get healthy and prep for the final half of the season. The Owls will next return to action on Thursday, October 13th, when they travel to Bryn Athyn. Game time for that contest is slated for 6:00 PM.
