Soccer Battles Haverford in Final Home Game of 2012

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Visiting Haverford College rolled to a 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr Wednesday afternoon in the Owls' final home game of 2012.

After twenty minutes of scoreless action to start the contest, Haverford got on the board with a goal from Meg Boyer at 23:30. She was assisted by Elizabeth Newman.

Both teams continued to play hard the remainder of the half, but it was the Fords that held Bryn Mawr at bay to take the 1-0 lead into the half.

The second-half started similar to game with both teams playing hard in the midfield and forcing the ball into the offensive half of the field. In the 80th minute, the Fords struck again. Following a punch-save by senior goalie Rebecca Joseph, Haverford's Phoebe Miller controlled the ball and took the shot that was just out of the reach of Joseph.

Five minutes later, the Ford's Hannah Davis took a Boyer pass to score and secure Haverford's 10th win of the season.

Freshman Nina Bertolami, sophomore Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins and junior Karina Siu recorded one shot each for the Owls. Joseph posted 21 saves, including 15 in the second-half.

Bryn Mawr was outshot 39-3 while Haverford held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Donning the Yellow and White in front of their home crowd for the final game in their intercollegiate career was seniors Emily Bartell, Joseph, Veronika Mohr and Misha Sims.

The Owls are back to action when they travel to Baltimore on Saturday, Oct. 20, for a showdown with the 17th ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
