BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College soccer team defeated visiting McDaniel College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon on Applebee Field.
Following a slow start to the game and battle in the midfield, Bryn Mawr was able to control the action and move into their offensive side of the field. Pushing the ball into the box, freshman Allegra Levy sent the ball to the middle while sophomore Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins (pictured) leaped up and headed the ball into the back of the net.
Both teams continued to battle in the midfield to gain control of action. Each team pushed the ball in their respective offensive side of the field but were unable to capitalize. The first-half came to an end with the Owls holding the slim 1-0 lead.
The second-half saw most of the same action as the first-half as both teams trying to provide an offensive spark to their team. When the horn sounded at the end of the game, Bryn Mawr claimed their first Centennial Conference win of the season. It was their first conference in since 2010 when the Owls defeated Washington College 3-2.
Senior goalie Rebecca Joseph posted six saves as she posted her seventh career shutout. In addition Dorfsman-Hopkins' shot, Levy, senior Misha Sims, junior Karina Siu and freshman Veronica Roux all posted a shot.
Despite being outshot 6-5, the Owls held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
The win, marks the first time in the series history that the Owls have defeated McDaniel. The series, which began in 1993, has been dominated by McDaniel as they posted 18 straight wins following the opening match ended in a 3-3 tie.
Bryn Mawr is back to action Thursday, Sept. 27, when they host Ursinus College at 4:00 pm.
