CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Bryn Mawr College soccer team opened-up Centennial Conference play Wednesday night as they fell on the road to host Washington College, 2-1.
After back and forth play with little offense by either team in the game's opening 30 minutes of action, the Shorewomen netted the game's first goal. In the 31st minute, Kim McClellan and Suzanne Patinella connected on a corner kick to give the Shorewomen the 1-0 lead.
The game was still 1-0 when the first-half concluded.
Following halftime, it didn't take Washington long to make it 2-0 as Heather Smith scored in the 45th minute after she intercepted a Bryn Mawr pass and scored.
Two minutes later, on a corner kick, junior Karina Siu sent the ball to the middle of the box and freshman Caitlin Homstad leaped in the air, heading the cross to the far right of the net. The goal is Homstad's second of the year while Siu's assists is her second of the season. Both of Siu's assists have come on corner kicks.
Over the final 40-plus minutes of the game, Bryn Mawr had multiple chances to tie the game, but was unable to cash in on their opportunities. In addition, senior goalie Rebecca Joseph kept the Shorewomen out of the net by making a pair of saves.
The Owls posted nine shots with freshman Veronica Roux taking four of them. Joseph posted three saves in between the pipes for the Yellow and White.
Bryn Mawr is back to action when they host McDaniel on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 12:00 noon, on Applebee Field.
