LYNCHBURG, Va. – The host Randolph College Wildcats netted a pair of first-half goals then had to hold-off an explosive second-half form the Owls to claim their fourth win of the year with a 2-1 win over visiting Bryn Mawr Sunday afternoon.
The Owls started the game a little slow in the first-half which allowed Randolph to scored two goals on three shots in the first-half of the non-league showdown. The Cats got on the board in the 3rd minute with a goal from Brianne Roth. They tacked on another goal 12-minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.
Randolph held Bryn Mawr at bay the remainder of the half as they took a 2-0 lead in intermission.
The Owls came out on fire in the second-half. With the ball in their offensive side of the field, sophomore Marian Slocum earned Bryn Mawr a corner in the 46th minute of action. When junior Karina Siu stepped to take the corner, the sent a booming kick to the middle of the box where sophomore Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins leaped in the air and headed the ball to the far post, upper 90, to beat the goalie.
The Owls kept great possession of the ball in the midfield all day long while controlling the majority of the action in the second-half, but were unable to capitalize on seven second-half shots.
Senior co-captain Rebecca Joseph made a diving save on a crossed bar sent to the far post in the second-half to keep Randolph out of the net and content with two goals. She ended the day with four saves. Freshman Allegra Levy led the Owls with three shots as Dorfsman-Hopkins, and freshmen classmates Caitlin Homstad and Veronica Roux tallied two shots.
The Owls held a 12-7 advantage on shots and a 5-4 lead on corner kicks.
The Owls fall to 1-2-1 overall on the season and return to action when they host PSU Abington on Friday, Sept. 14, at 4:00 pm on Applebee Field.
