Bryn Mawr Bedeviled by Dickinson

Bryn Mawr, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr lacrosse team returned to Applebee Field ready and raring to go after their first road trip of the season. Unfortunately, that excitement didn't last long, as Dickinson came into town and took a 17-1 victory from the Owls. Katie Alpert was busy in front of the cage for Bryn Mawr, with the sophomore keeper making 11 saves on the afternoon. The Red Devils, currently ranked 18th in the IWLCA coaches' poll, scored ten goals in the first half to help set the pace as they eased their way to the win.

Dickinson (4-2, 1-0 Cent.) tallied four goals in the first two minutes of play to set the tone for the rest of the game early on. The Red Devils would slow things down and maintain possession over the rest of the half, making it difficult for Bryn Mawr (3-4, 0-2 Cent.) to get a foothold in the game. Part of the problem for the Owls was their inability to get a hold of the ball on the faceoff; Dickinson out-drew Bryn Mawr by a 16-3 margin throughout the game.

There were still several bright spots for the Owls on the day. Alpert put in a yeomanlike performance, causing two turnovers and collecting three ground balls to go along with her eleven saves on the day. The Owls also tallied their lone goal of the game on a great individual play by Alison Spain. After Alpert picked up one of her three ground balls off of a Dickinson turnover, the Owls broke out of their own end and looked to attack. The ball ended up on the stick of Spain, who carried it into the Red Devils' zone from the right side. She worked her way into the middle and towards the cage, spinning around several Dickinson defenders. Ultimately Spain found herself alone in on goal from just yards out, and she wouldn't miss from there. She fired a shot over the goalkeeper's shoulder and into the top corner, giving Bryn Mawr their goal on what was a beautiful individual run.

The Owls will look to shake off today's loss when they get back in action next week. Bryn Mawr will host Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon in their next contest, with game time slated for 4:30 PM.
