Lacrosse Wins Home Opener 14-4

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – For the fourth straight year, the Bryn Mawr College lacrosse team opened the regular season with a win over Penn State-Abington. This time around, the Owls used six goals and a pair of assists from senior Kathleen Magner to pick-up the 14-4 non-league victory.

It took Bryn Mawr on 13 seconds to get on the board as Magner won the opening draw and broke sprinted directly to the net. Her first shot of the season went past the Lions' Sandy Cao to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. Twenty-one seconds later, junior Ashton Dwyer made it 2-0 Bryn Mawr with an assisted goal.

Penn State got on the board as Sara Sawick found the back of the net. The Lions added their second goal of game at 15:34 as Kate Schalck scored on a free position shot.  PSU-Abington's goals were split by Magner's second goal of the game, an unassisted tally at 24:13.

Over the final 15 minutes, Bryn Mawr tacked on six goals. Magner and Dwyer scored two goals each while senior Katherine Kilmer scored on a free position goal at 14:50. Freshman Diana Kelley recorded her first collegiate goal at 13:43 while junior Zoe Fisher went between the pipes at 11:04.

Bryn Mawr held on to take a commanding 9-2 lead into halftime.

Coming out in the second-half, Bryn Mawr scored four times in the opening six minutes. Dywer scored the first goal of the half while sophomore Georgina Dominique recorded back-to-back goals at 29:33 and 26:55. Both Dwyer's goal and Dominique's first goal were assisted by Magner. Magner recorded Bryn Mawr's fourth goal of the half at 24:08.

In the final two minutes of the game, Penn State's Rebecca Nutt and Avery Winn each scored. Their two goals were broken-up by Magner's sixth goal of the game at 1:33.

Freshman Katie Alpert earned her first collegiate win in the net as she posted seven saves.

Bryn Mawr outshot the Lions 3014 and held a commanding 23-8 advantage in ground balls.

The Owls return to action when they host Immaculata on Friday, March 7, at 3:30 pm.
