Bears Down Lacrosse in Conference Tilt

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Visiting Ursinus College scored 13 first-half goals as they cruised to an 18-3 Centennial Conference victory over the Owls Saturday afternoon.

The Bears jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a free position goal from Devin Brakel just 1:42 into the game. Four minutes later, freshman Georgina Dominique picked-up a loose ball around midfield and sprinted to the net. As she ran past a pair of Ursinus Defenders, Dominique unloaded a shot flew past Margaret Philbin to tie the game at 1-1.

Over the next 24 minutes, Ursinus tacked on 12 goals while holding the Owls scoreless to take a commanding 13-1 lead into the half.

Coming out of halftime, junior Kathleen Magner scored her team-best 23rd goal of the season, an unassisted tally, only 2:14 into the action. Ursinus added three more goals including a pair of scored from Megan Horney, to take a 16-2 lead.

With more than 10 minutes left in the game, Magner recorded her second unassisted goal of the contest. The Bears score twice over the final 6 minutes to claim their first conference win of the season.

The Bears had 11 players score, including team-highs from Brakel and Taylor Egolf with three each. Brakel added three assists.

In the goal for the Owls, sophomore Grace Baelen-King posted eight saves while picking-up three groundballs. Magner ended the afternoon with five draws and three ground balls.

The Owls are back to action when they host the Washington College Shorewomen on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:30 pm on Applebee Field.
