BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College basketball team kicked-off the 2013-14 season as they hosted the second annual Women's College Tip-Off Tournament. In the tournament's opening game, Bryn Mawr fell to Cedar Crest 65-32 while the College of New Rochelle defeated Notre Dame 83-46 in the nightcap.
The Falcons netted the game's first basket just 1:58 into the contest and never looked back. Junior Saira Kitagawa got the Owls on the board with a free-throw at 17:17, but their next point came nearly four minutes later as it was Kitagawa making another free-throw.
Senior Nicolette Parmese scored two of her team-best 13 points twenty second later. The Owls slowly chipped-away at Cedar Crest's lead and pulled within four, 13-9, with just under seven minutes to play. However, that would be the closest that the Owls would get to the Falcons the remainder of the game.
The Falcons took their largest lead of the half, 14, with back-to-back free0-throws from Kayleigh Keggan to make the score 27-13. Cedar crest led 27-15 at the half.
Bryn Mawr started to come alive in the second-half as Parmese tallied five points followed by Kitagawa and sophomore Veronica Roux with four points each. Junior Ashton Dwyer and freshman Alayna Garner added two points apiece but it wasn't enough as the Falcons outscored the Owls 38-17.
Parmese led the Owls with her first double-double of the season as the grabbed 15 rebounds and tallied 13 points. Roux missed out on her first career double-double as she pulled down 13 boards and scored nine points. Kitagawa added six points on the day.
Bryn Mawr out rebounded the Falcons 46-32, but turnovers plagued the Yellow and White all afternoon.
The Owls will take on Notre Dame at 1:00 pm in the consolation game while the College of New Rochelle and Cedar Crest play at 3:00 pm in the championship game.
