BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Junior Nicolette Parmese netted a game-high 16 points and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds en route to her fifth double-double of the season. Despite her output, the visiting Garnet of Swarthmore College defeated the Owls 73-31 in Centennial Conference action.
Freshman Ashlee Williams got the Owls on the board at 17:59 with a lay-up. Parmese added her first basket of the game 43-seconds later. The Swarthmore defense held the Owls scoreless the next 8:44 as they took a commanding 31-4 lead.
Parmese broke the Owls' dry spell with a layup at 8:32 before sophomore Quinn Conlan added a jumper at 6:36.
The Owls outscored the Garnet, 11-8, the remaining 5:52 of the half but faced a 20-point, 39-19, deficit at the half.
Out of the break, Swarthmore allowed just two points, a pair of free throws from Parmese, over the opening seven minutes of the half.
The Owls scattered 10-points over the remaining thirteen minutes of the half. Parmese tallied six over that span while Conlan and senior Soraya Terrab added a basket each.
The Garnet held a 45-29 advantage in rebounds while outscoring the Owls 34-12 in the second to earn their 12 win of the season and eighth in league action.
Conlan and Williams chipped-in with four points each while junior Jackie Handy added three. Williams added seven rebounds.
The Owls are back to the hardwood when they travel to Johns Hopkins on Thursday, Jan. 17, for a 7:00 pm contest with the Blue Jays.
