Parmese Nets 20 Points as Bryn Mawr Hosts Gettysburg
BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Junior Nicolette Parmese led all scorers Saturday afternoon as she posted 20 points, but it wasn't enough as visiting Gettysburg College topped Bryn Mawr 68-40 in Centennial Conference action.
After a slow start to the game, Parmese sparked the Owls by recording 10 of the teams' twelve points; senior Aislinn Toohey recorded the other. During that time, Parmese connected on three jumpers and four free-throws.
Down eleven points, 25-14, with just over four minutes to play in the first-half, Bryn Mawr battled the Bullets hard as they outscored Gettysburg 8-6. Junior Jackie Handy tallied five of Bryn Mawr's points during that span while Parmese chipped-in the other three.
While keeping Gettysburg on their toes the entire first-half, the Owls were perfect form the free-throw line, 8-for-8, as they trailed on nine points heading into the half.
To start the second-half, Bryn Mawr was held to five points over the opening ten minutes of action. Gettysburg continued to push on as they took a 23-points lead, 50-27, at the half way mark of the second-half.
The final 10-minutes of the game faired differently for the Owls, but the Yellow and White was unable to chip away at the Bullets lead. During that time, Parmese and freshman Ashlee Williams each tallied six points while handy added a free-throw with 8:34 left.
With 3:10 remaining in the game, Gettysburg took their largest lead of the game, 29 (66-38). While Bryn Mawr went basket-for-basket with the Bullets the rest of the game, their deficit proved to be too much.
Parmese came up three rebounds short of her second double-double of the season, however, all seven boards came on the defensive side of the ball. She also recorded a pair of blocks. Williams ended the day with 10 points and three rebounds while Handy tallied eight points and rebounds. Freshman Liandra Curtis and Toohey ended the afternoon with three assists each.
The Owls are back to the hardwood on Wednesday, Dec. 5th, when they travel to Muhlenberg College for a 7:00 pm contest with the Mules.
