LANCASTER, Pa. – Junior Nicolette Parmese posted a game-high 14 points but it wasn't enough as the host Diplomats topped Bryn Mawr, 71-35, in both teams' Centennial Conference opener.
F&M jumped out to a 10-0 lead with 16:21 to play. Parmese got the Owls on the board by going 1-for-2 from the charity stripe at 15:59. The Dips expanded their lead to 20-1 before junior Jackie Handy connected a layup with 12:51 to play.
Franklin and Marshall held a 26-5 lead with ten minutes to play in the half. F&M outscored the Owls 22-10 over the final ten minutes to take a 48-15 lead into the locker rooms.
The second-half was a different story as the Owls stayed with the Diplomats but were unable to overcome their 33-point halftime deficit. During the final twenty minutes of the game, freshman Hope McMahan and Parmese combined for 12 of Bryn Mawr 20 points in the half. Handy added four points and senior Aislinn Toohey chipped in a three-pointer at 6:45.
In addition Parmese's 14 points, she snagged seven rebounds. Handy and McMahan ended the night with eight points each as well as seven and eight rebounds, respectively.
Bryn Mawr is off until next Tuesday when they travel to Haverford for a 7:00 pm tip-off with the Fords.
