Hoops Fall in Championship Game; McMahan and Parmese Named to All-Tournament Team

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – In the championship game of the newly formed All-Women's College Tip-Off Tournament, the Bryn Mawr College Owls fell in the final moments of the game to Wilson, 51-46. Freshman Hope McMahan was named the tournament MVP while junior Nicolette Parmese was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Wilson started the game by putting up the game's first two baskets. Bryn Mawr didn't let it bother them as they tied the game at 6-all with six minutes into the first half with a basket by junior Jackie Handy.

Bryn Mawr took the lead following a pair of free-throws by freshman Ashlee Williams, 14-12. The Phoenix tied the game with 8:24 remaining and regained the lead a minute later. The Owls retook the lead and outscored Wilson 9-5 the final five minutes of the half to take a 23-20 lead into the half.

Bryn Mawr added to their lead in the opening minutes of the second half, but was held scoreless over a 5:30 span following a Williams' free-throw. Parmese snapped the scoreless streak with a layup at 10:51. Wilson held a 32-28 lead at that moment.

Down four points with 3:47 to play, Wilson made back-to-back free throws to push their lead to six, 46-40. With sixty-one second left in the game, senior Aislinn Toohey pulled the Owls within two, following a three pointer.

Forcing Wilson to take an off balanced shot on the ensuing possession, the rebound bounced right to Ashlee Yealy who put the ball back-up and in to add to their lead. With 13-seocnd left, Vanessa Whitfield added to the Phoenix's lead securing them their second win of the season.

Parmese led the Owls with 14 points on the afternoon while pulling down seven boards. McMahan and Handy grabbed a team-best eight rebounds each. Toohey added seven points on the night.

Wilson was led by the tandem of Whitfield and Tara Field, who both put-up 20 points.

McMahan becomes not only the first-ever All-Women's College Tip-Off Tournament MVP as well as the first freshman to win this honor. Over the two-day tournament McMahan averaged 12.5 rebounds and 8.5 points and totaled four blocks.

The second installment of the All-Women's College Tip-Off Tournament set for 2013 will be hosted on the Main Line with the date of the tournament to be announced.

Bryn Mawr is back to action this coming Tuesday when they travel to Lancaster as they take on Franklin and Marshall in their Centennial Conference opener at 6:00 pm.
