Owls Badminton Hosts Mainline Doubles Tournament

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - On Sunday, March 20, despite the predicted forecast of snow, over 120 badminton players traveling from as far as Washington, D.C. arrived at the Schwartz gymnasium bright and early for the annual Mainline Doubles badminton event. The Mainline Doubles is a badminton tournament consisting only of doubles matches that is hosted by the Bryn Mawr badminton team every year. With lots of preparation going into organizing this event, the Mainline Doubles ended in a success. There was a diverse group of players ranging in different ages to different skill levels. Many organized badminton teams/clubs showed up including those from Georgetown, Rutgers, Drexel, Temple, Swarthmore, Haverford, and many more. A lot of the local badminton players attended this event as well.

With 8 individual matches going on at once, it was an action-packed day full of laughter, stress, cheers, and of course, extra changes of shirts. Bryn Mawr's own badminton team had a couple of players participating in the tournament with many of them placing. Captains Lamei Zhang and Mariam Haider, playing together in the Women's Level B category finished with third place while Arianna Li, a first year, finished third with a partner from Swarthmore in Women's Rookie Level. A great day to see many shining faces including two of the team's former coaches, with one of them traveling all the way from Denmark. Overall, it was a wonderful day to meet new players from all around and of course, play a little badminton along the way.
