Bryn Mawr Wraps Up Weekend With Strong Performances at Knecht Cup

Novice 8+ boat competes at Seven Sisters 2018

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Bryn Mawr crew team was back on the water on Sunday for day two of the Knecht Cup, with both of the Owls' 8+ boats in action.

The novice 8 boat put together a very strong race on the day to claim second place in their final. With just 500 meters to go, the Owls nearly suffered a catastrophe, as one of the oars came out of the oarlock. After several rough strokes, the Bryn Mawr rower was able to muscle her oar back into position, and the Owls were able to sprint home to the second place finish in a time of 8:32.60. That was good enough to beat out their competitors from Stockton, and just shy of the first-place team from Catholic. Today, the novice boat was coxed by Anushka Robinson and consisted of Cassidy Healey, Allison Eckert, Sofia Bomse, Bailey Wilhite, Rhian Muschett, Amalia Cattrell, Yael Day, and Rania Hammami.

After qualifying for today's finals with a very strong performance yesterday, the Owls' varsity 8+ boat was not quite able to get off the starting line as well today. The Bryn Mawr boat was once again coxed by Samantha Van Cott and consisted of Lina Oppenheimer, Madison Barchas, Sophia McConnell, Maura Clancy, Aine Williams-Asplund, Aurielle Hampton, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Samantha Forestier. Despite the frantic first half of the race, Bryn Mawr ultimately settled down and finished with a strong final half. That earned Bryn Mawr sixth place in finals with a time of 8:02.50, less than five seconds behind the boat from Catholic just ahead.

The Owls will be right back in action next Saturday, as they will compete in the Kerr Cup Regatta, their final race before MARC championships on the last weekend in April.
