CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Bryn Mawr crew team was back on the water earlier Saturday afternoon for the opening day of the Knecht Cup. The Owls' novice eight boat will be in action tomorrow, but today, the varsity eight competed in qualifying/prelims for the Varsity 8+ DIII event, and the Owls certainly put on an impressive performance.
The Owls varsity boat lineup was similar to their other two spring events so far, with Aine Williams-Asplund making her first appearance of the spring for Bryn Mawr.
Bryn Mawr was going up against several other strong program from around the region. In their heat, the Owls faced off against boats from Carnegie Mellon, Washington College, and Cabrini. Bryn Mawr put up a very impressive showing on the day, coming across the line in second place in a time of 7:30.50. That was just over six seconds shy of the Carnegie Mellon boat, and impressively, it beat out MARC opponent Washington College by almost 13 seconds.
That finish was also good enough to earn Bryn Mawr a spot in the finals tomorrow at 12:20 PM. They, Carnegie Mellon, and Washington College will join Catholic, St. Mary's, and Franklin & Marshall in that event tomorrow afternoon.
