Rowing Opens Spring Slate with Strong Performances

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - It was a spring-opening kind of day for the Bryn Mawr Crew team as several members of the squad competed at the 2019 Murphy Cup Regatta. The competition saw two Varsity 8+ boats on the water representing Bryn Mawr at the highly competitive meet Saturday afternoon.

The Owls Varsity A 8+ boat grabbed a third-place finish behind Jefferson University and Washington College. The Varsity A 8+ boat's time of 7:58.95 was nearly 10 seconds faster than their performance in last years prelims at the meet. Representing Bryn Mawr in the Varsity A 8 + boat was coxswain Samantha Van Cott, Samantha Forestier, Rhian Muschett, Aurielle Hampton, Sophia McConnell, Madison Barchas, Maura Clancy, Jacqueline Fernandez and Lina Oppenheimer.

In the same heat and trailing not far behind was Bryn Mawr's second V8+ boat. The crew turned in a time of 8:58.67 and secured themselves a fifth-place finish in the event behind Cabrini College. Bryn Mawr Varsity B 8+ boat consisted of coxswain Anushka Robinson, Rania Hammami, Sofia Bomse, Amalia Cattrell, Yael Day, Bailey Willhite, Allison Eckert, Ritvika Patodia, and Cassidy Healey.

The Owls are back in action next Saturday at the Washington College Invitational.
