LEWISBERRY, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr crew team was back in action Saturday for their all-important Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships hosted at Gifford Pinchot State Park in central Pennsylvania. Due to their hard work throughout the season two Owls were named All-MARC, and three were named Academic All-MARC during post- regatta awards ceremony.
The Owls varsity eight boat claimed second place in their heat of the Women's Varsity Eight, coming across the line in 7:47.23. That was just over 30 seconds behind the first place finisher, Washington College. The final of the varsity eight was wiped out by thunderstorms, so places were awarded based on heat times. The Shorewomen's heat time was the fastest, followed by Johnson & Wales (7:17.30), Franklin & Marshall (7:23.00), St. Mary's (7:33.50), Bryn Mawr, and Cabrini. The Owls finished with 12 points for the event.
The women's varsity four saw a 5th place finish in their preliminary race (10:40.90) which allowed for them to advance to petite finals. In petite finals the team finished 5th in their heat at 12:07.80.
MARC award winners:
Cam Cameron, Emily Spiegel, and Hannah Terz earned the 2018 MARC Academic All-Conference. To qualify, student-athletes must a) have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, b) be in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, AND c) must have competed in 75% of the varsity competitions or competed in the MARC Championships.
Though the Owls came up a little short of a podium finish in the event, they are ready to get back to work for the Dad Vail Regatta coming up in two weeks.
