WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The Bryn Mawr crew team was back in action Sunday for the Knecht Cup Regatta. After a weekend off from competition last weekend, the Owls were supposed to be racing yesterday for the preliminaries of the Knecht Cup. However, heavy winds pushed the heat to this morning, with the finals coming in the afternoon.
Needing a third place finish or better in the preliminary heats to advance to the Grand Final, the Owls' "A" varsity eight boat passed the test with flying colors. That boat, made up of Ji Yoon Ahn, Emily Spiegel, Jane Liu, Jill Li, Aurielle Hampton, Sophia McConnell, Emily Kate O'Brien, and Eliza Wagner and coxed by Anna Ferlanti, won the second heat with a time of 7:18.52. That was over a second faster than Franklin & Marshall's A boat, and easily enough to put them in the Grand Final later in the afternoon.
In the Grand Final, the Owls raced in a time of 7:19.78. That was enough to give Bryn Mawr fourth place in the event, and was less than five seconds outside of a podium finish.
Bryn Mawr will be right back in action next weekend at the Kerr Cup Regatta. That event, hosted by Drexel University, will take place on Saturday, April 15th on the Schuylkill River.
