Owls Field Hockey Garners Academic Honors From NFHCA

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Honors were released late last week, with Bryn Mawr players plastered throughout the three different honors lists.

Freshman Yelin Jung and seniors Haley Newsham and Holly Senebandith highlight the Owls scholarship this season. Jung, a midfielder and New Jersey native, was named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction list in her first season. To earn a place on this list, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the fall semester of 2016-17. Jung becomes the first Owl named an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction since the 2013-14 season, when Senebandith and Kayla Bixler made the list.

Newsham and Senebandith led the group of 11 Bryn Mawr field hockey players who were named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The senior co-captains were each honored for the fourth straight season on this list, which requires a 3.30 GPA through the fall semester. Joining Newsham, Senebandith, and Jung on the list were Mary Cugini, Lydia Fisher, Samantha Heyrich, Emma Hicks, Abigail Lua, Angela Meng, Grace Morris, and Hannah Zamore. Bryn Mawr featured a total of 11 student-athletes on the list, sixth-most in the Centennial Conference.

Bryn Mawr was also named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team list as a team. This honor recognizes institutions that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the fall semester of 2016-17. 124 squads across the country earned this recognition.
