SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr field hockey team hit the road for their final Centennial Conference contest of the season earlier Wednesday night. The Owls made the short trip down to Swarthmore to face off against their tri-co rivals, and on this night it was the Garnet who came away with the win. The hosts used a five-goal outburst in the first half to steam away to an 8-0 win on the chilly October evening. Sophomore goalkeeper Angela Meng made six saves on the night to lead the Owls defensive efforts.
Swarthmore (5-12, 1-8 CC) got off to a quick lead in the contest thanks to Sierra Spencer's opening goal just 12 minutes into play. Spencer, a junior and the Garnet's leading scorer on the season, would ultimately tally two more goals to cap off her hat trick on the night. The hosts also got goals from five other players in their offensive explosion. Bryn Mawr's (0-15, 0-10 CC) lone offensive effort came in the 62nd minute, as the Owls got the ball on the stick of Oona Ryle in the offensive zone. The sophomore lit off a shot, but it bounced just wide of the cage, preserving Swarthmore's shutout on the evening.
Bryn Mawr will return home for one final game in their 2016 campaign, as they celebrate Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The Owls will welcome Elmira to campus for a 2:00 PM start, with the team celebrating the careers of their five seniors on the day.
