BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Three different Owls tallied two goals each as the Bryn Mawr College field hockey team shutout Notre Dame of Maryland University, 8-0, Wednesday afternoon in non-league action.
It didn't take Bryn Mawr long to find the back of the net as junior Madison Beckmann scored her first of two goals on the day in the seventh minute. Beckmann carried the ball into the right side of the circle as she unloaded her shot to the far post past Notre Dame's goalie Ashley Fallon.
Seven minutes later, sophomore Ashlee Williams found the back of the cage with help from classmate Kayla Bixler. Williams found the back of the cage three minutes later as she tipped a shot from Beckmann past Fallon.
In the 23rd minute of action, Bixler scored an unassisted goal as the Owls took a 4-0 lead. As the first-half was coming to a close, Beckmann scored her first goal of the day with help from classmate Holly Constants.
At the half, Bryn Mawr outshot the Gators 20-3.
In the second, Constatns tallied back-to-back goals for the Owls separated by sixteen minutes. Her first goal was assisted by Beckmann while her on second she was given help from Bixler.
With just over 1:30 to play in the game, Bixler carried the ball into the circle and took a laser of a shot to push the Owls lead to eight.
Starting goalie Faith Westdorp turned away the only shot on goal in the game as she picked-up her fifth win of the season. Westdorp and sophomore Alex Weinfeld split the shutout as both goalies played one half each.
The Owls will honor their three seniors – Rachael Kahelin, Brigitta Schuchert and Westdorp - in their final game of the 2013 season on Saturday, November 2, as they play host to Washington College at 1:00 pm.
