SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The 2012 chapter on the Bryn Mawr College field hockey team came to an end today as the Owls fell to host Swarthmore 5-1 in Centennial Conference action.
The Garnet took an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back goal by Nia Jones and Katie Teleky within the opening 7:30 of the game.
As the half was coming to a close, Bryn Mawr's Holly Constants (pictured) notched her fourth goal of the season on a penalty corner, cutting the Owls' deficit in half. On the play, freshman Kayla Bixler was credited with the assist that game at 29:53.
With under 2:30 to play in the half, Swarthmore's Alexis Zavez made it 3-1.
In the second, Jones tacked on two more goals to register a hat trick on the day as Swarthmore posted their 9th win of the season.
The Owls were led by sophomore Madison Beckmann with three goals while sophomore Ashley Arbuckle, Constants and senior Chloe Weeks tallied one shot each. In goal for the Owls, freshman Alex Weinfeld posted five saves in her 63:04 of work while senior Faith Westdorp posted two stops the remainder of the game.
The Owls end the season 5-11 overall and 0-10 in Centennial Conference play. The five wins is the most in a season since 1998 when the Yellow and White went 7-12.
Beckmann led the Owls with 16 goals while Arbuckle and Bixler added seven and five, respectively. Seven other Owls tallied goals. Beckmann paced the Owls with five assists while Arbuckle, Bixler and sophomore Mikah Farbo added three assists each. Four other Owls counted for five assists.
In the cage, Westdorp posted 90 saves in 631 minutes of action while Weinfeld turned away 64 in 485.
